Jaw / Shoulder Treatments

Headaches, teeth grinding, TMJ pain, and shoulder tension can be reduced by treating the area with a product that relaxes the muscle fibres. Temporomandibular Joint (TMJ) Disorder usually goes hand-in-hand with teeth grinding (bruxism), headaches, and often tension in the neck and shoulders.

The masseter, neck and shoulder muscles can increase in size and tension, causing a cycle of discomfort. This can result in headaches, damage to teeth, disrupted sleep, migraines, ear tingling, and shoulder pain. By treating the jaw and/or shoulder areas, we can slim the masseters, relieve shoulder tension, and reduce overall muscle strain.

Within 2 weeks, a majority of our patients notice a significant reduction in teeth grinding, TMJ pain, headaches, and shoulder discomfort.

We start with a medical consultation and examination of the jaw, neck and shoulder muscles. The treatment is then administered by a series of small needles (taking less than 5-10 minutes).

After treatment, avoid putting pressure on the treated areas for at least 6 hours.

Teeth Grinding - Bruxism Treatment

Teeth grinding, aka Bruxism, may cause pain, headaches, jaw problems and damaged teeth. Researchers have found that injections into the chewing muscles in the cheek can block the signals that tell these muscles to contract, relieving the grinding and clenching.

Nighttime and daytime bruxism is a very common condition that can cause headaches, temporomandibular joint (TMJ) syndrome and teeth problems that can make life miserable. The cause of bruxism isn’t fully known but is suspected to be due to abnormal nerve signals triggering involuntary and forceful contractions of the jaw muscles. Those contractions result in clenching of the jaw and grinding of teeth.

TMJ Disorder

Injections have been successfully used in the management of TMJ disorder symptoms for nearly a decade. The injections are used on the jaw muscles to relax the jaw, some of the benefits are that this can: treat headaches; jaw muscle pain; bruxism (teeth clenching); chronic migraines; and trismus (can’t open jaw).

Face Slimming

Ultimately, by reducing the muscle tension and the size of the masseter muscles you may see a slimming effect of the width of your face. This can help to taper your face shape to a V and make you look less boxy.

Trap Treatment for Shoulder Tension & Pain

Trap/shoulder treatment is designed to relax the top section of the trapezius muscles, which can become enlarged or tense due to stress, posture, or overuse. By targeting this area with product that relaxes the muscles the treatment can alleviate discomfort and tension in the neck and shoulders. It also helps to activate the lower traps and mid back, which in turn can help with pain and improve posture. In addition to reducing pain, trap treatment can create a more elongated neck and slimmer shoulder appearance. Many patients find it beneficial for relieving muscle strain while also achieving a more contoured silhouette. Results typically start to appear within 2 weeks and can last for several months.

Shoulder Pain

This treatment relieves pressure, reducing discomfort, spasms, and headaches. It eases neck and shoulder strain, improves motion, and reduces pain radiating to the back or head, providing long-lasting relief.

Shoulder Slimming

Relaxing the trapezius muscles reduces their size, creating a longer neck and refined shoulder line, improving posture. This non-surgical treatment offers a leaner, more contoured upper body appearance.

TMJ / Trap Treatment FAQ & Details

Bruising is the most common side effect of masseter and trap muscle treatments, occurring in about 1 in 10 cases. A rare but temporary risk is the unwanted relaxation of neighbouring muscles when treating the jaw, which will return to normal after several weeks. Due to individual anatomy, there is always a small risk of asymmetry, and some may notice a pre-existing asymmetry when focusing on the treated area. These issues can be easily corrected during a follow-up with our doctor. Infection is extremely rare, and we have never encountered any cases.

Your first treatment will last around 3 months. With each subsequent treatment to duration of results will increase. After a couple treatments we can usually switch to 6 monthly treatments.

Yes, you sure can. Our treatment bookings all include a consultation.

You can get straight back to work or fun straight after these treatments. On the jaw you will have some red bumps for about 20 minutes but these will fade quickly. The important part is to avoid touching the area where the product was placed for 6 hours to minimise the risk of side effects. Some of the spots treated may feel mildly tender for a day or two.
